| Today I thought back to a competition yard I visited a week ago and was shocked to notice nearly all of the horses leaving for, or arriving back from a hack, were sporting draw reins. These are as bad as the bearing rein from the horse and carriage era. The horses had their heads pulled in, were trying to open their mouths to escape the pain of the bit and pressure of the draw reins. What torture.
I spend so much more of my time observing the horse's mouth, head, neck and the rider's hands and I see horses which are tense and in discomfort and pain. |
| This is the first opportunity I had to read an article in the June issue of Horse magazine which features Dr Cook's Bitless Bridle. My aim has been to raise awareness and ensure as many horse owners as possible have the chance to understand more about the bit and their horse's mouth and breathing. After reading it I have come to the conclusion that many people still misunderstand the bit and it's detrimental effects on their horse and are indeed frightened - of the truth perhaps ? Thank you Amanda and Horse magazine for printing a feature on Dr Cook's bridle, one step forward on the awareness ladder. |
| Today, when at the stables I began to tidy up a little. There is no better time then springtime to sort through old and unwanted items. The trouble is I find I sort out a pile of unwanted items, only to reinstate them as I find a new use for them. Anyway I came across a small selection of bits and decided the best thing to do with these was to hang them up. This I did and I must say thy look really good on the tack room wall. I think this is definitely the best place for them. |
| We are going to have a new page on the website, well several actually, but one in particular entitled 'The Bitless Bridle in Action' . I shall feature a few Bitless Bridle users, and I hope we can follow their progress. I am waiting for photos from a few of the candidates and hope to feature this page soon. Hopefully you will meet, Andrea with Willow and Bundle, another Andrea with Dan and Homer, Deb in Saudi Arabia with Fetra and Angel, Liz Crawford with Iggy and I hope Lil with Freki. |
| Yes, this web site needs a face lift, it is in the pipeline, I have been thinking about this for the past month or two. I have received some very useful comments so I thank you for those. It is just a question of finding the time - I am working on it. Spirit is willing but the body is a little weak. |
| This is the day I discovered my insurance company would only cover my ponies in the Bitless Bridle when not on the road. They do not seem to appreciate I have complete control in a BB, aaargh I was so angry, which is very unlike me. I have sent them an email and am waiting for a reply. I assume they are not aware of Dr. Cook's research and need to have their eye's opened. Make sure your insurance company covers you to use a bitless bridle, Most do this |
