Dr Cook

The Bitless Bridle™ Is Now Available in the UK

Robert Cook, FRCVS., PhD., Professor of Surgery Emeritus of Tufts University, Massachusetts, is a veterinarian who, for most of his career since graduating from the Royal Veterinary College, London, in 1952, has been a faculty member of clinical departments at schools of veterinary medicine in the UK and USA.

Dr Cook has published nearly a hundred articles in scientific journals and many articles too in horsemen's journals.  These articles incorporate contributions to knowledge which have benefited the horse and been of practical value to horsemen and equine practitioners. But he believes that the work he has done since 1997 to investigate the bit method of communication in the horse and to validate the Bitless Bridle is now doing more for the welfare of both horse and rider than anything he has done previously.  It is helping horsemen in all disciplines of equitation to achieve improved performance.

Further information, articles by Dr Cook  and user comments can be found on his website

Advantages of the Bitless Bridle

Let us look at some of the advantages of the Bitless Bridle™, there are just SO many:

  1. The most important one is you won’t be inflicting any pain in your horse’s mouth

  2. You won’t be interfering with your horse’s breathing system

  3. Because you are not using a bit he won’t think he has to eat

  4. No horrible saliva drooling every where – ugh

  5. No mucky bit to wash after ridden work

  6. It is easy to put on and your horse won’t resist by raising his head, as you won’t be trying to put a bit in his mouth.  This is good news especially if you ride anything bigger then 16hh and are less then 5ft 6in and have to use scaffolding to reach his head.

  7. Easy to take off

  8. Easy to clean

  9. It looks like a normal bridle

  10. You can use it as a halter

  11. He won’t be able to lean on you and he will learn to be lighter on the forehand and be able to carry himself with ease

  12. You can’t inadvertently jab him in the mouth should you get left behind over a jump for instance

  13. You will learn to use your seat and legs more and have an independent seat, which is what we are aiming for

  14. It can also be used for Driving
